Activities in 2018 (School year: Apr.2018 - Mar.2019)
26th, Mar, 2019 Graduation ceremony
Jun Hahn completed the master course and Tsamara Tsani, Itsuki Yamada, and Kazuki Okubo completed the bachelor course, respectively.
Tshamara Tsani gets a bachelor degree in 3 years and enrolls in master course.
Hahn and Okubo start to work in private companies since this April and Yamada goes to US for overseas study.
I wish they will walk their ways with strong and lasting motivations.
I'm glad to see their graduation but feel a little lonely to farewell them.
In this time, Tshamara Tsani won Tokyo Tech excellent undergraduate student award and Jun Hahn won excellent presentation award of master research.
Congratulations!
23rd, Mar, 2019 The last lecture of Prof. Yoshikawa
Prof. Kuni Yoshikawa, who jointly has managed seminars with my team, gave his final lecture owing to his retirement in the end of March 2019.
Thank you for your long and hard works in Tokyo Tech.
In the retirement party, many alumni of not only Yoshikawa lab. but also Takahashi and Tokimatsu labs. joined it.
9th, Mar, 2019 Paper accepted! ( J. Mater. Cycles Waste. )
A manuscript of Dr. Hiorki Kitamura, who got doctor degree on Mar. 2018 and now in NIES, was accepted for the publication in Journal of Material Cyclces and Waste Management.
Congratulations!
It was a hard work owing to very long review process.
8th, Mar, 2019 Excellent poster award! @Kanto-branch workshop of JSMCWM, Tokyo
12 students in our group (Song, Jiang, Tshumah-Mutingwende, Leeabai, Maqhuzu, Kaewmee, Zhao, Hahn, Dilixiati, Jo, Tsamara Tsani, and Sugimoto) made their poster presentations in Kanto-branch workshop of Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management in Tokyo.
Dilixiati and Tsamara Tsani won excellent poster awards.
It is the third awards for Dilixiati in this fiscal year (CJJC2028, 2018KCJ jont sypo. and here).
Tsamara Tsani had the first academic presentation here and won it successfully. Congratulations!
In addition, Dr. Kitamura, now in NIES, also won the award. He got it for the fifth successive year. Great!
1st, Mar, 2019 Paper accepted! ( Sci. Total Environ. )
A manuscript of Andile Maqhuzu was accepted for the publication in Science of the Total Environment.

Two doctor students of our group, Leeabai and Wannomai, made oral presentations in 5th 3R International Scientific Conference on Material Cycles and Waste Management "3RINCs2019" @Bangkok.
Dr. Hiorki Kitamura, who got doctor degree on Mar. 2018 and now in NIES, also joined this conference.
22nd, Feb, 2019 Final presentation for bachelor degree @Dept. Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering
Tsamara Tsani made her final presentation for bachelor degrees.
She will complete bechelor course in 3 years and the fist bachelor graduate in Dept. Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering.
Good efforts and works for 1 year!
Do the best for master degree from April, 2019.

Kaewmee Patcharanat made oral presentation in The 4th Symposium of International Waste Working Group-Asian Regional Branch "iwwg-ARB2019" in Bangkok.
15th, Feb, 2019 Final presentation for bachelor degree @Dept. Planetary Science
2 undergraduate students of Takahashi lab. (Okubo and Yamada) made their final presentations for bachelor degrees.
Good efforts and works for 1 year!
Their research topics, design preferences of presentation slide and appealing power analysis of EcoMark certification to consumers, were also interesting for Takahashi.
14-15th, Feb, 2019 Final presentation for master degree
Jun Hahn made the final presentation for master degree.
Good efforts and works for 2 years!
If without Hahn's joining to Takahashi lab., it would be an impossible research topic, "Universal design of bins with psychometric analyses for visual impairment".
Before your graduation, let's complete the manuscript for the publication in a peer-review journal.
12th, Feb, 2019 Doctor research interim presentation
3 doctor students of Takahashi Lab. (Wannomai, Leeabai, Maqhuzu) made their interim presentation of doctor researches.
It is 2 minutes bullte oral presentation and following poster presentation.
1st, Feb, 2019 Tokyo Tech education award!
Takahashi won Tokyo Tech education award for a course "Creative processes for Science and Technology" to 1st grade undergraduate students.
It's the first award to education activities for Takahashi.
In this course, students designed trash bins, made and set them in Ookayama campus, and monitored PET bottle collectin performance.
Every year, students created suprising designs and results.
It's a snapshot with Tokyo Tech president Masu after the award ceremony.
18th, Jan, 2019 Christian back to Indonesia
Christian Joshua Bagaskoro, a 6-month exchange student from University of Indonesia, returned back to Indonesia.
Try the best for bachelor degree in UI.
See you again in Indonesia or somewhere!

11th, Jan, 2019 60th birthday celebration of Prof. Shimaoka, Kyushu Univ. @Tokyo
Prof. Takayuki Shimaoka in Kyushu University, the former boss of Takahashi, had 60th birthday.
Takahashi joined the celebration party in Tokyo.
Students, who Takahashi supervised as assistant professor in Kyushu Univ. at that time, now are working very actively in the Society.
Nice to meet you again!
8th, Jan, 2019 Project Design & Management
It's a snapshot of GEDES compulsory course "Project Design & Management" for 1st grade master students.
Students survey energy supply/consumption of some nations and potential energy sources.
Based on this survey, they propose nuclear-zero scenario and sustainable energy management in final presentations.
Doctoral foreign students serve as TA to support data survey and facilitate group discussion.
Final presentation next week!

Dr. Shenglei Lin, got doctor degree on Sep. 2018, submitted two manuscripts to Journal of Arid Land Studies.
The first was accepted on Nov. and the second was accepted now!

A good news came to our group near year end.
25th, Dec, 2018 Year-end party
3 laboratories (Yoshikawa, Tokimatsu and Takahashi lab.) had a year-end party jointly in an Indian restaurant near Nagatsuta station.
In the last year, we had it in an Indian restaurant near our campus. In this year, an Indian restaurant, too.
The year-end party in an Indian restaurant may be now a conventional event for us? Unfortunately, no Indian students in our groups.
Good hard works in this year, everyone.
Xth, Dec, 2018 Birthday
Takahashi lab members celebrated the birthday of Dr. Takahashi.
Birthday present is portable massage machine! It will be helpful for Takahashi to recover his health.
They also celebrated the bithday with a sweet cake. Yummy!

17th, Dec, 2018 Best paper award ceremony! @55th Environmental engineering research forum of JSCE @Kyoto
The paper of Dr. Takahashi (single author), presented in 54th Environmental engineering research forum of JSCE and published in JSCE peer-review Journal (Japan Society of Civil Engieers=G, Vol.73, No.7, III_307-III_314. 2017) was awarded Best paper award.
Prof. Takahashi joined the awarding ceremony in Kyoto. He tries to publish more papers worthy of awards.
28th, Nov, 2018 Paper accepted! ( J. Arid Land Studies )

11 students of Takahashi lab. (Song, Baskoro, Jiang, Tshumah-Mutingwende, Astryd, Leeabai, Maqhuzu, Kaewmee, Hahn, Dilixiati, and Jo) made their oral and poster presentations in 10th Asia-Pacific Landfill Symposium "APLAS TOKYO 2018"@Tokyo.

Kaewmee won Best poster award. Congratulations!
Kaewmee won twice prizes in this year as well as Dilixiati. Great!

6 students of Takahashi lab. (Jiang, Leeabai, Maqhuzu, Kaewmee, Hahn, Dilixiati, Jo) and Dr. Takahashi made oral and poster presentations in 2018 Korea-China-Japan Joint Symposium on Solid wastes to Energy and Material application @Asan.
Kaewmee won Best presentation award. Dilixiati and Jo won Excellent poster award. Congratulations!
It is the first prize for Kaewmee and Jo. Dilixiati won twice in this year. Excellent!
26th, Sep, 2018 New students
We have farewell on September but wellcome new students at the same time.
Takahiro Kobori, Yueyuan Zhao, and Xuejie Xu joined our team as doctoral students and Samarathani also joins as a bachelor students.
Tsamara Tsani is now in 3rd grade of undergraduate couse but try to graduate on March, 2019.
If everything goes well, she will enroll to master course on next April.
She is a 1st-batch student of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering department and will be the first short-term graduate.
Short-term graduation from 1st-batch students is out of expectation for faculty members of TSE department.
In addition, Christian Joshua Bagaskoro, from University of Indonesia, also join our team as a half-year exchange student.

Yoshikawa lab., Tokimatsu lab. and Takahashi lab. jointly host a farewell and wellcome party for graduates and newcommers.
Indonesian team organized this party in an Indonesian restaulant.

Two doctoral students of Takahashi lab. (Jiang and Tshumah-Mutingwende) made interim presentations of doctor researches.
Presentation is hybrid style with short oral presentation and following poster presentation.

20th, Sep, 2018 Graduation ceremony
Shenglei Lin successfully completes doctor course with doctor degree.
Two master students, Yu Tian and Nisrina Adisti Karina, also successfully completes master course with master degrees.
Congraturations!
Dr. Lin will remain as a postdoctoral researcher for half year and then work in a private company from April, 2019.
Tian and Adisti return to their countries.
Takahashi is very glad for their successful graduations but feels a little bit lonely to say farewell.

13 students of Takahashi lab. and Takahashi made poster presentations in 29th annual conference of Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management (JSMCWM) in Nagoya.
(Song, Baskoro, Jiang, Tshumah-Mutingwende, Astryd, Leeabai, Maqhuzu, Kaewmee, Adisti, Hahn, Dilixiati, Jo, Sugimoto)
Although Takahashi lab. members always won excellent poster awards since 2014, our posters were not selected in this time.
Let's try it again in the next conference!
26-31st, Aug, 2018 DioXin2018 @Krakow
Wannomai Tatiya made a poster presentation in 38th International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) & 10th International PCB Workshop "DioXin 2018" in Krakow.
Dr. Matsukami in NIES, co-supervisor of Tatiya, also joined this conference.
Three international conferences were overlaped in a week since Aug 22nd. Hard week for our group!
25-28t, Aug, 2018 Excellent presentation award! @CJJC2018, Kyoto
4 students of Takahashi lab. (Song, Tian, Dilixiati and Jo) and Takahashi made oral presentations in 9th China-Japan Joint Conference on Material Recycling and Solid Waste Management in Kyoto.
We took a group photo with Prof. Jun Wu in Nanjing University.
Dilixiati Dilinazi won excellent presentation award. Congratulations!
It is the first award for Dilixiati. Let's try to win more and more award!

3 master students of Takahashi lab. (Hahn, Jo, and Dilixiati) made poster presentation in MISW2018 workshop.
It was not requested from the supervisor but motivated by themselves. Glad!

7th, Aug, 2018 GEDES workshop on students' activities
Global Engineering course for Development, Environment and Society, GEDES, gives credits to student activities inside/outside campus such as presentation in international conference, field survey, internship, and teaching assistant.
2 doctoral students of Takahashi lab. (Leeabai and Maqhuzu) reported their presentations in international conferences using posters.
23rd, Jul, 2018 Semester-end party
Yoshikawa lab., Tokimatsu lab. and Takahashi lab. jointly hosted semester-end party.
In this time, Thai student group arranged it in a Thai restaurant.
The next will be organized by Indonesian group.

28th, Jun, 2018 Doctor research final presentation
Shengeli Lin made final presentation of his dotor research works.
When his works are approved in thesis defense on Jul., he will get doctor degree.
It's 5-year compilation since master course enrollment.

12 students of our group (Song, Baskoro, Jiang, Tshumah-Mutingwende, Astryd, Leeabai, Maqhuzu, Kaewmee, Tian, Karina, Dilixiati, and Jo) presented thier research works by posters in spring conference of Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management (JSMCWM) in Kawasaki.
Dr. Kitamura, graduated from our group with doctor degree on this March and is working in NIES since April, also presented some of his works completed in Tokyo Tech. Nice to see you again!
Mengzhu Song won excellent poster award. Congratulations!
From our group, Lin in 2015, Jiang in 2016, and Song in 2018 won excellent poster awards in spring conference, respectively. Excellent Chinese members!
10th, May, 2018 Korea-Japan joint session in spring conference of KSWM @Gwangyang
As an annual event, we joined Korea-Japan joint session in spring conference of Korea Society of Waste Management (KSWM).
In this year, almost all of our group members, 12 persons in total, made their presentations.
7 students of our group (Song, Astryd, Leeabai, Kaewmee, Tian, Dilixiati, and Jo) made their poster presentations.
Although Takahashi's presentation was also planned, it was cancelled owing to busy schedule unfortunately.
Excellent poster award would be announced in annual conference of Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management (JSMCWM) in Nagoya.
Rosa won it last year. Might someone of our group also win it this time?
7th, May, 2018 Welcome party
Yoshikawa-lab, Tokimatsu-lab and Takahashi-lab jointly hosted welcome party for new students.
China team in three labs managed this party in a Chinese restaurant.

2nd, May, 2018 Doctor research interim presentation
Lokahita Baskoro and Mengzhu Song made their interim presentations of doctor researches.
In the old department (Environmental Science and Technology), presentation style of interim presentation was the same with final one.
On the other hand, in GEDES, short oral presentations with following poster presentations were requested to doctor students.
Only one year remains before final presentation. Do your best!
