Activities in 2019 (School year: Apr.2019 - Mar.2020)

26th, Mar, 2020 Graduation ceremony
Kei Soyama and Shohei Shiba completed bachelor course. Rosamond Tshumah-Mutingwende and Baskoro Lokahita completed doctor course.
Soyam goes on to master course. Dr. Lokahita works in Tokyo Tech as a postdoc researcher. Dr. Tshumah-Mutingwende works in an international private company in Japan.
Owing to outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 virus, graduation ceremony was simplified and all farewell parties were cancelled.
It's very sad but we can overcome the outbreak!




25th, Mar, 2020 Paper accepted! ( Chemosphere )

A paper of Tatiya Wannomai was accepted for the publication in Chemosphere.
It reports content and bioaccessibility of flame retardants contained in dust of an e-waste processing site.

26th, Feb, 2020 Completion of exchange program in Tokyo Tech
David Erler and Johannes Nordstrom completed exchange program in Tokyo Tech and came back to Germany and Finland.
How about the stay in Japan?


19th, Feb, 2020 Doctor degree was approved!
Doctor degree was approved to Baskoro Lokahita and Rosamond Tshumah-Mutingwende.

14th, Feb, 2020 Bechelor research presentation (Dept. of Planetary Science)
Kei Soyama and Shohei Shiba made bechelor research presentations in dept. of Planetary Science, School of Science.
Good presentations.




10th, Feb, 2020 Interim presentions of master and doctoral researches
Tsamara Tsani and Takahiro Kobori made interim presentations of master research and doctoral research, respectively.
They were poster presentation for master students and hybrid oral/poster presentations for doctoral students.

Tsamara Tsani won excellent poster award. Congratulations!




6th, Feb, 2020 Paper accepted! ( J. Material Cycles and Waste Management )

The last paper from doctoral research of Dr. Hiroki Kitamura, graduated from our team and works in NIES, was accepted for the publication in Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management.
It reports metal speciation and the matrix around metals in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash using heterogeneity data.

5th, Feb, 2020 GEDES student activity workshop
6 students of Takahashi lab. (Kobayashi, Kobori, XJ Xu, H Xu, Dilixiati, and Tsamara Tsani) presented their activities in GEDES workshop.
Tsamara Tsani won excellent poster award. Congratulations!

27th, Jan, 2020 Paper accepted! ( Resources, Conservation & Recycling )

A paper of Mengzhu Song was accepted for the publication in Resources, Conservation & Recycling.
It reports the importance of soil organics, in particular temperature dependency of their characteristics, to explain mitigation capacity of soil water evaporation when coal fly ash was amended as soil conditioner.

9th, Jan, 2020 Final presentation for doctoral degree
Rosamond Tshumah-Mutingwende and Baskoro Lokahita made their final presentation of doctoral researches.
For doctoral degree, they will defend doctoral dissertation in Febuary.




6th, Jan, 2020 Paper accepted! ( J. Material Cycles and Waste Management )

A paper of Astryd Viandila Dahlan was accepted for the publication in Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management.
It reports heterogeneities of fly ash particles generated from a fluidized bed combustor of municipal solid waste incineration and fly ash formation mechanisms estimated by heterogeneity data.

23rd, Dec, 2019 Year-end party
We had a year-end party jointly with Tokimatsu lab.
China group was in charge in this time. So, we had the party in a Chinese restaurant.
In particular, fire pot was nice. Thank you for Chinese members.




Xth, Dec, 2019 Birthday
Today is the birthday of Prof. Takahashi. Takahashi lab. members celebrated it with a birthday cake.
Coffee gifts and others were presented for him. Thank you, my team members!

A paper of Douglas Hungwe was accepted for the publication in Energy & Fuel.
It reports CO2 gasification kinetics of waste tyre pyrolysis char with low and high ash contents.

5th, Dec, 2019 Tokyo Tech Research Festival 2019
Prof. Takahashi introduced research works of his team in Tokyo Tech Research Festival 2019.
He was awarded best presentation award. Thank you!
One of his educational policy is to train presentation skill.
This award might guarantee the educational policy is FACT, right?




20th, Nov, 2019 Doctor degree was approved!

A paper of Andile Blessings Maqhuzu was accepted for the publication in Science of the Total Environment.
It reports stochastic economic analysis of coal-alternative fuel production from municipal solid wastes employing hydrothermal carbonization in Zimbabwe.

2nd, Oct, 2019 Final presentation for doctoral degree
Mengzhu Song and Lighvan Reza Khoshbouy made their final presentation of doctoral research.
For doctoral degree, they will defend doctoral dissertation in November.

It reports Ti nanomineral formation mechanisms in high sulfur coal.

Dilinazi Dilixiati goes on to doctoral course.
Hao Xu and Seonkyeom Kim join our team as a doctoral student and a master student, respectively.
David Erler from Hamburg University of Technology, Germany and Johannes Nordstrom from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland also join our team as exchange students.

25th, Sep, 2019 Doctor research interim presentation
Astryd Viandila Dahlan and Patcharanat Kaewmee made their interim presentations of doctor researches.
In GEDES, interim presentation is hybrid style of short oral and poster presentations.
After interim presentation, doctoral students need to pass preliminary screening, final presentation, and doctor dissertation defense.




19-21st, Sep, 2019 30th annual conference of JSMCWM @Sendai
9 stuents of Takahashi lab. and Takahashi made presentations in 30th annual conference of Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management (JSMCWM)@Sendai.
(Khoshbouy, Baskoro, Jiang, Leeabai, Kaewmee, Sugimoto, Dilixiati, Jo, and Tsamara Tsani)



Unfortunately, nobody in our team could not win poster award.
But, Dr. Hiroki Kitamura, who completed doctor course in our team, won excellent poster award. Congratulations!
Dr. Kitamura also won excellent poster award in the conference of Korea Society of Waste Management. Great!
In conference dinner, Takahashi took a group photo with Dr. Kitamura and Prof. Yamamoto, supervisor of Dr. Takahashi.




18th, Sep, 2019 Farewell party
We had a farewell party jointly with Tokimatsu lab.
Giun Jo completed master course and will work in an international private company in Singapore. Dr. Lu Ding, an postdoc researcher here, moves to East China University of Science and Technology as assistant professor.
Good luck for Giun and Lu!
Tomorrow, we all need to go to Sendai to make presentations in JSMCWM annual conference. Hard schedule!




14th, Sep, 2019 WoW2019 @Manila
Takahashi presented keynote speech in 7th Seminar/Workshop on the Utilization of Waste Materials "WoW2019"@Manila.
In conference dinner, Takahashi took a group photo with Tokyo Tech president Masu and other professors. Thank you.




5-7th, Sep, 2019 Excellent presentation/poster award! @2019 Japan-China-Korea joint symposium on Energy and Environment, Karuizawa
11 students of our team (Song, Khoshbouy, Kobayashi, Baskoro, Leeabai, Kaewmee, Sugimoto, Xu, Kobori, Dilixiati, and Jo) and Takahashi joined in 2019 Japan-China-Korea joint symposium on Energy and Environment @Karuizawa.



Patcharanat Kaewmee won excellent presetation award.
In addition, Dilinazi Dilixiati was awarded excellent poster award.

25-30th, Aug, 2019 DIOXIN2019 @Kyoto
Tatiya Wannomai presented her research work in 39th International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants "DIOXIN2019" @Kyoto.
She said she enjoyed the conference as well as Kyoto. Good!




26th, Aug, 2019 Completion of an exchange program in Tokyo Tech
Congsomjit Danusorn, an exchange student from Kasetsart University in Thailand completed the exchange program.
Did you enjoy half year stay in Tokyo Tech?

6th, Aug, 2019 GEDES student activity workshop
Global Engineering course for Development, Environment and Society (GEDES) gives credits to student activities inside/outside campus such as a presentation in international conference, field survey, internship, and teaching assistant.
6 students in our group, Khoshbouy, Wannomai, Leeabai, Kobori, Maqhuzu, and Xu, reported their activities in GEDES workshop.

It reports the effects of trash bin designs on PET bottle collection performances.

A paper of Rosamond Tshumah-Mutingwende was accepted for the publication in Environmental Pollution.
It reports the impacts of freshwater properties like pH and Reynolds number on the dissolution rate of elemental mercury droplets.
It will be helpful to refine the environmental risk assessment of mercury discharged from artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM).

20th, May, 2019 Korea-Japan joint session in spring conference of KSWM @Jeju
Three students (Kaewmee, Dilixiati, and Jo) made poster presentations in 23rd Korea-Japan joint session in spring conference in Jeju, hosted by Korea Society of Waste Management (KSWM).
Although Takahashi also planned to join it, his schedule did not allow him to attend. It's the same as last year.



The excellent poster award will be announced in the 30th annual conference of Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management (JSMCWM) in Sendai.
Will anyone in our team win it successfully?

--> Unfortunately, nobody in our team could not win the poster award.
But, Dr. Hiroki Kitamura, who completed doctor course in our team, won it. Congratulations!


20th, May, 2019 BRF2019 @Montreal, Canada
Tatiya Wannomai made an oral presentation in the 9th International Symposium on Flame Retardants "BFR2019" in Montreal, Canada.
Dr. Matsukami in NIES, the co-supervisor of her doctoral study, also joined it.




14th, May, 2019 HGC2019 @Berlin, Germany
Khoshbouy Reza made an oral presentation in the 2nd International Symposium on Hydrothermal Carbonization "HTC2019" in Berlin, Germany.
After the symposium, he visited some Universities in Germany and Iran.
After his arrival at Tokyo Tech, he would make his interim presentation for doctor study.
Very tight schedule!


7th, May, 2019 Welcome party
Takahashi Lab. and Tokimatsu Lab. jointly hosted a welcome party for new students.
The Korean team was in charge at this time and we had it in a Korean restaurant.

It reports the generation of high surface area and the activation for biomass char of hydrothermal carbonization.

Because of Prof. Yoshikawa's retirement, Yasunori Kobayashi, Khoshbouy Lighvan Reza moved to Takahashi Lab.
Hungwe Douglas and Tsamara Tsani have gone on to the doctor and the master course, respectively.
Daisuke Sugimoto and Sumayya enrolled in the doctor and the master course, respectively.
Shohei Shiba and Kei Soyama joined our team as bachelor students from the department of Planetary Science, School of Science.
Congsomjit Danusorn joined our team as an exchange student from Kasetsart Univ., Thailand.
